Using Meditation or Yoga to Quit Smoking

Have you heard about meditation or yoga? It’s as old as acupuncture with no needles. Meditation is all about losing your worries, by listening to the inner self in the hope to find the answers or understand life better. It is an activity to find relaxation and inner peace. But using meditation or yoga to quit smoking!? You might say it’s rather a different story.

Meditation is an ancient way of connecting to oneself. However, meditation is no longer as ancient as once believed because we’ve been using it to relieve stress, to rejuvenate the body and mind, or cure underlying illnesses caused by everyday tensions of life. Now, it goes on step farther by helping you to quit smoking.

People smoke for a variety of reasons most particularly when the stress level is high. It’s a proven fact that stress is a trigger mechanism that causes the smoker to light a cigarette. In an attempt to lessen the stress level, the smoker will soon chain smoke, stick after stick and the more he becomes dependent in lighting a cigarette each time he faces stress the more he becomes addicted to nicotine. The effects of nicotine of course won’t last long and when the trigger factors are there again, the smoker once again craves chaining him to a lifetime misery of addiction.

As long as you live, stress will always be present in our life. So don’t ever say that smoking relieves your stress, you have to start coping with the anxieties of life with nicotine so you could quit successfully. Meditation teaches you to control your stress. The goal is to set your body to relax and be calm as it happens. If you’re good in mediation, it only takes few minutes to gain control over it and the wonderful thing about meditation is, it won’t cost much to hurt your wallet/

Keep in mind that smoking is expensive; after all, it’s a heavily taxed commodity. One pack of cigarette will cost you around $21 multiply it for a year, that’s already $7,000! That’s a big money spent on one vice alone. You could have spent that into something meaningful and healthy. Have you ever thought that you’re spending half of your income on tobacco products?

Meditation is so effective because it works directly to your inner self to treat your cravings and temptations. You won’t feel the pressure of stopping because you’re not using any product this time. Meditation is about helping you realize the harmful effects it brings to your body and motivates you to quit smoking for the last time.

The hardest part of quit smoking is to stay clear a few days after you quit. You’ll experience seemingly insatiable cravings but if you will keep on holding on the urges will soon go weak and won’t be bothering you soon as time passes by. But if your mind isn’t clear and firm, you’re likely to smoke again. Meditation will help you realign yourself to your goals. But once again as we always mention, it is the strength of your determination and desire that will guide to your goal in achieving your freedom from nicotine addiction.

If you failed to quit using meditation or yoga for the first time, don’t blame yourself, the important thing is you tried, and that is the first step in quitting successfully. Do it again, and this time you know what went wrong and correct that. Quitting smoking is a process of trial and error so don’t give up. In my experience it took several months before I quit successfully using various methods and aids, so don’t doubt, believe in yourself, you too can quit just like me.
